Nate Berkus is an interior designer known for his contemporary styles, neutral color palettes, and timeless looks. As someone who would describe their own interior style in exactly those terms, he's soon become one of my favorite designers. He recently launched a new Signature bedding collection for Bloomingdale's, an extension of the Nate Home Core collection, and it wasn't long before I found myself browsing the range online.

As H&G's sleep editor, I know what I'm looking for when it comes to great bedding. Whether it's bed sheets, pillows, shams, duvets, or comforters, bedding should not only look the part but help you sleep better. In an interview with our news editor, Nate discusses the foundation of a sleep-inducing room and agrees that the right bedding does impact sleep. In his collection he's considered material quality, the type of weave, and how well it washes, to bring premium bedding that impresses in both quality and design.

I've scrolled Amazon, Target, and Bloomingdales to get a full look at what the collection has to offer. With 100% cotton bed sheet sets and decorative waffle cushions, these are the 6 picks that made it into my basket.

Since Nate’s first appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show in 2002, he has become one of the world’s most recognizable interior designers. He has authored two New York Times bestselling books and stars alongside his husband, Jeremiah Brent, in HGTV's Nate & Jeremiah Home Project.

Made from high-quality 100% cotton with a sateen finish, I know this bed sheet set is premium. Simple, with no over-the-top prints or color options, if you're wanting a luxurious night's sleep, you'll get it with this 300 thread count bedding set.

This neutral thick striped duvet set adds a little interest while ensuring your bed doesn't distract from the rest of your space. I'm also impressed that this set has internal ties to keep your comforter in place, and hidden button closures that won't cheapen the design.

It can be hard to find bedding available to buy in a full bundle. Nate Berkus' cotton percale collection allows you to pick and choose from products in different colors and sizes to curate your own set. Made from high-quality cotton with a percale finish, you can upgrade your whole bed in an instant.

Beige is an elegant color that's certainly here to stay. While its usual associations sit within traditional neutral or earthy palettes, I love how these smooth percale shams will mix and match against darker colors for a more modern look.

I'm not usually attracted to texture, but I can make an exception for this waffle blanket. Woven with a cotton/linen blend, it looks luxurious but feels lived-in. Unlike other linen blankets, the added cotton will ensure it feels soft.

Layering various pillow sizes on a bed is the best way to style it for a luxurious, yet effortless look. Simple yet stylish with a chunky yarn knit, it brings instant texture and interest to an otherwise plain bedroom.

If Nate's collection isn't quite doing it for you, these are the best sheets I've tested out of dozens of different sheet sets.

Best cooling bed sheets

Sizes: Twin to California kingMaterial: Bamboo lyocellColors: 12OEKO-TEK certified: No

+ Naturally cool to the touch+ Stylish sateen finish- Silky look isn't for everyone

These sustainably made, naturally cooling, and temperature regulating Ettitude bed sheets are my favorite set. Made of CleanBamboo fabric, they're smooth to the touch and moisture-wicking, which means they actively keep me cool at night. They wash well and never need to be ironed (a great indicator of good quality). The silky finish looks luxurious draped over the bed too.

Best luxury bed sheets

Sizes: Queen, KingMaterial: 100% viscose from bamboo.Colors: 9OEKO-TEK certified: No

+ Great eco-credentials+ Luxurious silky finish- Sheets and shams sold separately

This luxurious set gives the same look and feel of Nate Berkus' cotton percale sets but is made from viscose bamboo. This material made for the softest duvet cover I've tried and one of the best-looking. It feels durable too, since bamboo is usually pretty thin. These are at the expensive end of the scale but are sure to last you.

Best organic cotton bed sheets

Sizes: Twin, queen, kingMaterial: 100% organic percaleColors: 14OEKO-TEK certified: Yes

+ Eco-conscious+ Hotel feel- More expensive

If you're shopping with sustainability in mind, it's worth considering this organic bedding set. It's comfortable and washes well, but best of all you can sleep well knowing you've done your bit for sustainability. This percale set, similar to Nate's, has a cool, crisp hotel feel – which is part of the high price tag.

Experts suggest you should have three bedding sets, and I agree. It's a good idea to have two all-season sets you can switch out and alternate between washes. They should be good quality bedding sets to last you the year, at least. Bed sheets made of bamboo or cotton are best for this as they're breathable and durable.

I also recommend having the best cooling bed sheet set for summer. You'll be grateful for having a breezy set made of linen or cool-to-the-touch eucalyptus, keeping you sweat-free even in the midst of a heatwave.

Having three bedding sets also allows you to change up the look of your bedroom. Different fabrics and colors evoke different styles. Since the bed is the focal point of the room, the style of bed sheets you choose can make all the difference.

Bedding sets generally come with a comforter and matching pillow shams, though these may also be called quit sets. If you're wanting bed sheets too, most brands offer duvet sets that include a duvet cover, fitted sheet, flat sheet and shams.

Larger bedding bundles can offer the combination of a bedding set and a sheet set with decorative pillows, a bed skirt and euro shams added into the mix. I've found some retailers like Bed Threads, Brooklinen and Piglet in Bed offer amazing mix and match make your own bundles where you're able to select which color and size you want to suit you and your bedroom style. These bundles are usually better value for money than buying each piece separately too.

If the brand you're shopping from doesn't have bundles or sets on offer, you can still to buy each product separately, but it will probably cost more.

Prioritizing aesthetics over practical qualities is one of the biggest bed sheet mistakes people can make when buying new bedding, and unfortunately, a lot of celebrity product collections can look stylish, but won't help you sleep better. Nate Berkus' bedding range features high-quality materials and timeless designs – though I wouldn't have expected any less.
